The only way to win is to learn faster the anyone else.

Today was inspiring. Guru’s day usually marks the half of the first semester aiming to bring a wave of inspirations to us, students and upcoming new designers. We had the chance to present and communicate our project concept to visiting industry and research experts, to get valuable external feedback. My People–Design–Technology case included four objects laid on four tiles of black marble, connected to each by the theme of copper.

PROJECT BIO:

Designing good lighting for luxury hotels is about more than creating stylish products that are on trend and look the part. I want to make lamps inspired by Scandinavian design that provide efficient lighting and enhance the guest experience, whether through multifunctional guest-room lighting or bold public area statement pieces.

OBJECT 1: Table lamp

This table lamp I designed last year represent the foundation of my Honours Project. I want to create another lamp inspired by Scandinavian design that will be used in luxury hotels around the world. I want to work with premium materials such as glass and copper.

OBJECT 2: Candle

The candle symbolises light in the darkness of life especially individual life, illumination; it is the symbol of holy illumination of the spirit of truth. I was really inspired by this candle when I designed the table lamp last year. It’s a very simple object that brought me to create a lamp that turns on with the touch a finger. To me, this symbolises simplicity, too. The lamp I will make this year needs to be user-friendly.

OBJECT 3: Book

Dixonary by Tom Dixon is the first comprehensive book on one of Britain’s best-known and most highly regarded product designers, in his own words and with a wealth of illustrations showing the inspiration behind each work he has produced in almost 30 years of design. Tom Dixon is my inspiration as a designer. I would love to meet him one day.

OBJECT 4: Picture frame

This picture frame shows my table lamp on the bedside table of Twelve Picardy Place boutique hotel in Edinburgh. That’s where I envision my lamp to be next year, after graduation.

Guru’s day thought me one thing.

I always need to have a purpose behind a design and LEARN FASTER than anybody else.
