Here’s to the future because I’m done with the past.

After a non-successful start of this project (read my plan A here) I decided to start from scratch again and focus on my plan B: lighting design.

Last year I designed this beautiful lamp and I really fell in love with the entire process of creating it from nothing. I commissioned a Swedish glassblower based in Stirling to blow a stunning glass sphere while I built the copper base. My tutor at the time proposed me the idea of designing a collection of table lamps using different colours and materials, however, I didn’t really have the time to build more than just one lamp last semester, so I left the idea there as something I could have worked on in the future. Also, during the summer I showed my design to family, friends and industry experts and they all loved it. They were interested in buying one or more!img_1955

I then decided this was the right time (and year!) to focus on this project more and design a lamp with a focus on people and technology. My initial sketches included examples of the lap with the base of different heights and different colour/materials! The current model of the lamp I created was made with a copper base and blue glass sphere. Other possible alternatives could include the use of brass and stainless steel alongside a yellow and black spheres.

This is the time to MOVE ON and focus on this exciting project for the rest of the year!
