How can you find inspiration in everything?

I was in London today, 8th of March, for a special event at the Design Museum. Fashion designer and businessman Paul Smith talks about the inspirations and obsessions that have driven his forty year career. I love his approach to design: he creates very colourful garments with patterns based on photos he takes during his travels, from things he sees on magazines, online, or anything that trigger his mind and make him create new pieces of clothing.

He is also deeply immersed in the visual arts and popular culture and the inspiration for his work is exceptionally wide-ranging. He has adapted paintings, comics and film and his sources reveal the passions and enthusiasms of a designer committed to innovation.

There are 5 quotes he mentioned during the presentation that made me think:

# Do things that are right, not which are easy.
# You can’t do it without doing it.
# You can find inspiration in everything. If you can’t then you’re not looking properly.

It’s good to leave DJCAD sometimes and get inspired by successful designers!
