This week I focused on adding some little details to my products that will help to complete the design. First of all, I went back to the jewellery department to create 2 of the 3 remaining hemispheres. I have made them in brass and aluminium (the first one is in copper). They still need to be polished and I’m thinking about making the last one ‘limited edition’ with a different look compared to the others. Perhaps using silver and adding some nice textures on it, to make it unique…

Another important thing I had to test at this point was the process to glue the marble tiles to the wooden cylinders that will hold the lamps on the wall. To do this I used a ‘test’ marble tile with a little square made of wood and some very strong glue. After a couple of hours, it was already well attached. I tested its strength with a hammer: I hit the wood a couple of times to see if it came off and actually the marble broke as it really glued well to the small wooden piece: success!

This week I also designed (check out the sketchbook) and 3D printed two very important details of my project. The first one is an enclosure that will be housing all the electric components that allow the light system to work. This will also bring back the full shape of the wooden cylinder so that the LEDs can be wrapped up around it properly.

The second component I designed this week is a little ‘riser’ that will be glued to each of the four hemispheres and will be working as a ‘cap’ for the marble tiles.
