During the second week, the last of January, I focused on refining the design of the base and try to make two prototypes in the workshop. This is not the definitive version, but I will take it as one of the designs I could potentially use for the final product. I have decided to play with foam at first since it’s a very easy material to model. I haven’t done a detailed sketch of the base yet, just did some quick drawings on the wood. I will do that early next week after I get the feedback from Chris.

I used the sphere I created last year as a model to try to understand how this model of the base would look like with it. I’m looking into creating another one, different from the blue one shown in these pictures.

With the help of the technician Malcolm, I have used the spinning machine to practice my skills and get a rough idea of how the lamp could look like with a base like that. The diameter of the inside base it’s 7.8 cm and that would allow the ElectricImp and the touch light sensor to fit inside. Spending 3 days in the workshop has helped me getting used to playing with these tools again. I will be spending many more days here, but this week was a great start as I haven’t been here since the end of the third year.
