Four weeks into the second semester, I’ve now started prototyping the lamps controller. I have opted for getting some models printed with the 3D printers machines in the Maker Space in DJCAD. This is what I’m planning to bring to the Mark 1 presentation. The model I created is quite basic but it gives a good idea of how it would work. There would be three buttons on the top of the cylinder: each of those would turn on the respective lamp and switch on the option to change the brightness by turning around the side of the controller. An Arduino system would allow this project to work and at the moment I’m discussing with Ali from the workshop how to design the most effective system for this product.

Designing these 3D models was also very useful to play around with the sizes of these controllers/lamps. I tried different dimensions to see which one would have been the best. However, there is still lots to do… for example deciding the exact dimensions, the materials and finalising the design after the electric system has been completed.

Working in the Maker Space is amazing, but sometimes it’s a struggle to get things done as the assistants are always so busy and it takes some time to get things going…
